HOW LONG DO KEGERATORS LAST?

Updated: Oct 10, 2019

At Liquid Life, we aim to provide the best in self-serve draft pouring systems for all of our customers. We’re proud of the keg rental services that we offer and strive to make them as efficient as possible. A common question that we receive about our all in one kegs for restaurants and bars deals with how long kegerators will last and stay fresh. We’d be glad to go over it a bit more in detail.

HOW LONG WILL A KEGERATOR LAST?

Truthfully, this is a pretty hard question to give a definitive answer for. If you take care of your keg, it should generally last about two-to-three months. However, a keg could also last as few as 20 days or as many as 120.

WHAT DETERMINES HOW LONG A KEG CAN STAY FRESH?

There are several different factors that can determine how long a keg can stay fresh for. These are as follows:

  • Manual Pumps vs. Kegs with CO2 – Manual pumps use oxygen to pressurize the keg, which will make beer go stale much quicker. On the other hand, CO2 won’t make your beer go stale. By using CO2 to dispense the beer, the beer will avoid oxidation and can remain fresh for months.

  • Storage Temperature – By keeping your keg at a temperature of about 38 degrees Fahrenheit, you’ll be able to extend the life of your keg.

  • Pressure – It’s recommended to keep the pressure regulator on your kegerator at 10-12 PSI. If it’s too low or too high, it can cause the remaining beer to lose its freshness.

  • Cleaning and Maintenance – For most sizes of kegs, the taps and lines will start to get dirty before the keg is empty. It’s important that you clean it about once a month to keep your beer tasting fresh.
